Free cinema ticket offers
Cinematik: Free cinema tickets
With Cinematik, you can get free tickets to select films for free. Each month, a film is voted to be screened, and you can book up to two tickets to see it on a specific day.
The cinemas taking part are mainly local independent ones, however there are Picturehouse and Reel cinemas included. You can see the full list here.
This month, you can see Seize Them. Some cinemas that weren’t available last month seem to be available this time, so it’s worth having a look if you couldn’t get it nearby last time.
The free tickets are funded by the National Lottery and the BFI.
The best cheap cinema ticket deals
You can use these tricks as most of the big chains, and even some of the independent movie houses. They’re also some of the best ways to save when going to the cinema.
Two for one tickets every Tuesday and Wednesday with Meerkat Movies
Get Meerkat Movies, and a year of 2 for 1 codes, for just a few quid.
Compare the Market have replaced EE with the weekly two for one cinema tickets deal, and I’ve found a way to get this for around £1. You can get access to this deal with this cheeky trick. You also now get Meerkat Meals included.
Up to 40% off with multiple chains
It’s worth checking existing memberships and perks (like the ones you get via work) to see if you can buy discounted tickets. And if you don’t there are ways to get access for free.
These offers generally sell at the same price for tickets based on the chain – no matter where the cinema is based in the UK (except in London).
This means it’s important to check special offers and the price at your local box office in case it’s cheaper to buy direct. Tickets are all digital so you can use them instantly.
Via Currys Perks
The Currys Perks Club can get you tech discounts, free subscriptions, and lets you enter giveaways. One of the perks is 6 months of discounts using a Cinema Pass. This can get you up to 40% off every day of the week.
Via Lidl+
This free app from Lidl will also provide free membership to Cinema Society until 4 October 2024, with discounts at the major chains and also movie rentals. You’ll get up to 40% off at Vue, Odeon, Showcase, Empire, Reel, G1 Group, Scott and Savoy.
Mubi Go membership
Mubi is an online streaming service. For £10.99 a month you get a classic, world cinema or art-house flick to watch, with the curated selection adding a new film every day.
Plus, for an extra fiver you also get a free cinema ticket every week via the Mubi Go service. There’s also a 7-day free trial.
You typically can’t watch blockbusters, but it’s had The Favourite and Suspiria in the past, and Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, alongside well-reviewed but smaller films. There’s a different film every week, and you can go to see that film once.
Of course, with many of the films being smaller, they’ll also have limited releases, so if you don’t live in a big city then there’s a good chance you won’t be able to take advantage every week as not all the films will be shown at all cinemas – from what we can tell, there are some Curzon, ODEON, Vue and Everyman cinemas participating.
It can be hard to find a list of participating cinemas – you can sometimes get a list to your emails if you’ve been signed up before, but this varies by film. Before the pandemic, Andy found a list on the app that included:
- Curzon – 13 locations
- Showcase – 16 locations
- Vue – 80 locations
- Archlight (London)
- Barbican (London)
- BFI (London)
- Genesis (London)
- Prince Charles (London)
- ICA (London)
- Rio (London)
- Abbeygate (Bury)
- Arthouse Crouch End (London)
- Broadway Cinema (Nottingham)
- Chapter (Cardiff)
- Depot (Lewes)
- Dundee Contemporary Theatre
- Eden Court Theatre (Inverness)
- Filmhouse (Edinburgh)
- Glasgow Film Theatre
- Home (Manchester)
- Hyde Park Picture House (Leeds)
- Queen’s Film Theatre (Belfast)
- Showroom Workstation (Sheffield)
- Tyneside Cinema
National Cinema Day: £3 tickets (expired)
On Saturday 2 September 2023 you’ll be able to get £3 tickets to most UK cinemas as part of National Cinema Day. Odeon, Vue, Cineworld and Picturehouse are all involved, along with a huge number of independents. The major exception was Everyman (who never seem to take part in promotions).
All screenings are included, though some might charge more for things like 3D, IMAX or VIP seats – it varies from chain to chain. Some also will let you book in advance, though bear in mind there might be booking fees if you do this online.

I love Picturehouse (it was my local for years when I lived in London) and it can be incredibly cheap, especially if you’re a member.
Meerkat Movies is accepted at Picturehouse, and you can buy tickets via a Tastecard (more on these at the top of the page).
Picturehouse: £3 tickets via Three+

Picturehouse Memberships
Picturehouse memberships offer great value for money. You get free tickets and a discount at any Picturehouse cinema, though the free tickets are sometimes restricted to your member cinema. It’s best to save the free tickets for the weekends when prices go up!
- Full membership represents good value. It’s recently gone up in price to around £57, and £67 in London, but you get five free tickets and £3 off future tickets. It’s more at £90 for the Picturehouse Central.
- Joint memberships with someone you share an address with are even better value. It’ll cost less than getting two individual memberships (£100, £110 and £170 respectively) and comes with 10 free tickets.
Members also get a 10% discount on food and drink, free previews, no online booking fees and occasional other freebies.
Cheap movie days

Up to 40% off with Tastecard+
You’ll pay £8.65 a ticket outside London and £9.50 a ticket inside London with a Tastecard + membership. This is marginally less than a peak adult ticket in most of the Picturehouse cinemas, but much more than off-peak or member prices.
You can also save at the Picturehouse Central in London. It’s a lovely cinema, but it’s also not cheap if you aren’t a member. Here a ticket will cost you £13.70, again it cheaper than peak time adult tickets.
