Christmas and Easter are two times a year when families traditionally come together for a Sunday roast.
Supermarkets know that we’ll be stocking up on extras, so start a price war on veg (as a loss-leader) to get people into their stores to spend money.
However, if you plan to stick to a list, it’s a great opportunity to stock up on cheap veg that can last you for a few months (if you take advantage of any freezer space you have).
As supermarkets can close or reduce their hours over the long bank holiday weekend, you may also find that the vegetables are given away for free!
Here are the current offers for vegetables running in supermarkets.
Sainsbury’s
Running from 27 March until 31 March 2024, you can pick up seasonal vegetables in Sainsbury’s for just 15p each!
- by Sainsbury’s Carrots 1kg – now 15p (65p without Nectar)
- by Sainsbury’s Parsnips 500g – now 15p (£1.30/kg without Nectar)
- by Sainsbury’s White Potatoes 2kg – now 15p (£1.29 without Nectar)
- by Sainsbury’s Swede – now 15p (62p without Nectar)
- by Sainsbury’s Savoy Cabbage – now 15p (69p without Nectar)
The veg would cost you £3.90 without a Nectar card or just 75p with a Nectar card – a massive £3.15 saving.
You must have a Nectar card to get the reduced price.
The offer is available in store and online but excludes Locals.
And, every penny spent on selected veg will be donated to Comic Relief to help tackle food poverty.
Lidl
From Tuesday, 26 March to 3 April 2024, you can also get cheap veg from 19p at Lidl.
- British White Potatoes 2kg – 19p
- British Carrots 1kg – 19p (was 65p)
- British Swede – 19p each (was 62p)
- Deluxe Echalion Shallots – 59p (was 99p)
- Spring Onions – 39p a bunch (was 59p)
- Green Beans 220g – 59p (was 89p)
To get cheap or free veg all year round, check to see if you’re eligible for Healthy Start Vouchers.
Easter is also a great time to take advantage of other offers, such as 25% off wine deals from most supermarkets, making it a great time to stock up.
Just because your favourite or go-to supermarket isn’t listed in the deals yet, it doesn’t mean it won’t be.
Check back, as we’ll keep an eye on future offers and update them here.
